Language as a means of communication opens up a large reservoir of tools which, when used, unfold their full power, sometimes quietly between the lines, sometimes with all their force. Used correctly, language creates beautiful images, broadens horizons, immerses grey in sometimes subtle and sometimes bright colours, builds bridges, tears down walls, is able to direct, to manipulate, creatively, but at the same time sometimes destructively. Written expression
You understand everything, hardly any German vocabulary breaks your head, let alone your heart. In conversation, you could almost be described as cheeky. But when you write, aj jaj…, you somehow always lapse unintentionally into that, how can I put it politically correctly: foreigner’s German (as an ex-foreigner, naturalised but born German, I am allowed to do that). This is a showcase for everything that German can do. Writing like Thomas Mann? Why not, miracles happen all the time….
Oral expression
You are a dictionary on two legs and impress your colleagues with synonyms, writing? No difficulty at all, you do it every day. But now you want to take on the really big challenge and give your next speech, the next team meeting, your next presentation in German. This is where the pitfalls of the German language come into play, because you have to know at the beginning of the sentence how it should end. Spontaneous rephrasing? Difficult, but possible.
